Please view this one on black! It's intentionally dark. Nearly 4,000 years old, this ancient sentinel rests atop a barren hill in the Sierra high country. At 10,000 feet elevation, air and water are hard to come by, but a grove of these elders have lived here for millennia. I wanted to capture a panoramic view of this incredible tree under the immensity of the night sky. The composition was difficult to arrange, but it was important to for me to include the cracked and weathered foreground into this arrangement. Watching the Milky Way rise in obsidian skies with this tree illuminated by starlight was an unforgettable experience- and I hope this is able to convey just a little bit of the awe I felt that night. via 500px http://ift.tt/1rFvREi
