Qaanaaq Iceberg by sebcopeland

This monster iceberg, the size of a city block, is nine times greater below the surface. Trapped by the winter freeze, it wintered over waiting for the spring thaw. I was fortunate to be in the northern Greenland community of Qaanaaq, following a 42 day crossing of Greenland, and ventured on the sea ice, days before its surface thawed entirely. The partial thaw made for remarkable reflections in the soft light of the midnight hour. Walking through the night amongst these ice giants felt like a stroll through the movie set of another world. The silence is deafening, broken only occasionally by the distant thunder of calving icebergs from nearby glaciers. via 500px http://ift.tt/1rw1keD
