Four years ago I visited Mt. Rainier and pre-visualized this shot, but just didn't get the conditions to cooperate. I wanted fog and partial clearing of the mountain at sunrise. Apparently Mother Nature was not taking requests that trip. During a recent trip to Rainier NP I encountered a lot of lousy weather and fog. I've been around long enough to know that if you listen to the weather forecast and stay in your hotel, you'll likely miss something great, like a small break in the weather or an unexpected clearing. I stood beside this lake four mornings in a row waiting in thick fog hoping it would clear and reveal Mt. Rainier at sunrise.
