The Long Haul by JacobRoutzahn

http://ift.tt/1p1SnJh This having been my third trip to Lake Helene for a perfect sunrise, located in Rocky Mountain National Park, I was certain that it was going to be a bust. With clouds to the East looming over the front range like a bad omen, I just knew they would block the sunrise I had woken up for at 3:15 in the morning for. Not only that, but the whimsical pinks and reds that only show themselves at dusk and dawn, teased me as they began to glow over areas I had little interest in focusing on. But, as if all at once, the warmth of the sun began to slide down Notchtop Mountain and the passing clouds. Even though the air was frigid and the wind ripping, I couldn't have felt a thing from all of the excitement. And although the sounds of my shutter were muffled under the blasts of wind, my howls and cheers of the experience were not. All images are ©copyright Jacob Lynn Routzahn.
