Day's Journey into Night by JeanDayPhotography

I was off through Tuesday and on Monday afternoon wandered the valley alone debating whether I should meet up with my other good buddy, Darvin or head over to Mono Lake to get a shot of a lesser known area I've wanted for some time. Obviously I ended up at Mono Lake though this was not the shot I was after and was more happenstance. Coming over the Tioga Pass I remembered the moon would be rising and thought I might like getting these sand tufas bathed in moonlight. After stopping at the Chevron to change into some warmer clothing and get a hot cup of coffee (their last night open before closing for winter!) I headed over arriving at this area just as the moon glow defined the distant mountains. I found my way by flashlight and decided on a comp to get the moon as it crested the tufa. This is three shots, one for the tufa, one for the sky, one for the midnight sun. I did end up going to the other spot to get the other shot I wanted, but got a shoe stuck in some very disgusting mud which was difficult to remove, finding I would be unable to get to my preferred location. So I went back to the car to wash my feet, put on some clean socks, warmed my now frozen toes with the car heater, and called it a night. Next time my journey will include scouting my preferred location by sunlight instead of the moon. :) via 500px http://ift.tt/1tUNFsf
