Hydra's Fall by williampatino

As many of you would know, there is nothing like the rush of seasape photography. Living by the sea, this is my escape. When the light is booming and the ocean is raging, there's nothing like it. This location is pretty epic yet not without a major set back. For this waterfall to occur, the tide and swell need to be just right, I imagine very similar to Thor's well in Oregon. But to get this shot you need to brace yourself for the surge as it rises up and toward you from the gorge. My wife happened to join me on this occasion. Reading a book by the headland she decided to capture a video of me on her phone, a freak set came through and I knew I was going to be in trouble. The force knocked me straight on to my back and fully submerged me as I held my tripod up to the heavens, protecting it like a parent would their child. I guess I am always prepared to have gear damaged, it's part of the rush and excitement of this kind of photography. As long as I can make it home safely for dinner, I'm in :) Sometimes we need to fall before we can rise. Stay safe out there and also monitor the swell!
