Awestruck by candacebartlett

A well-known scene of Bearhat Mountain overlooking Hidden Lake in Glacier National Park. This was my first time visiting Logan Pass and I had no idea what I was in for, despite the images I had already seen from there. It definitely is a place that must be witnessed with your own eyes to comprehend the immense beauty there. On this particular evening, I decided to do the quick hike to Hidden Lake and caught a break in the weather just long enough to take a few images. I decided to set my tripod down near this small group of purple asters that I thought stood apart from the others. Shortly after composing this image, a bold, friendly mountain goat walked up close and paused for a while a few feet away in front of me, as if to check out what I was doing. It was quite the handsome fellow and seemed to strike a perfect pose for me every few minutes, so I ended up taking more images of the goat than of the light going off in front of me. It was a good reminder to me though of how being in the moment is so important and really appreciating everything that is around you...not just a pretty sunset or landscape, but the wildlife inhabiting the area as well. After all, I was entering his domain and merely a visitor. My first experience at Hidden Lake and hiking around Logan Pass remains one of the fondest memories that I have of this national park. If you know me at all, then you know that I have since grown to have quite a love affair with it. The vast, dramatic and fragile beauty of Glacier will always hold a special place in my heart.
