Elgol, Scotland v Hallett Cove, South Australia Whenever I haven't had chances to shoot for new material, I try not to lie dormant and keep up with post-processing since I'm a believer that repetition and RSI help muscle and brain memory do the right things . This is a blend of images from two locations using smart objects and other funky photoshop tools. The story behind the images : In Elgol 2010, Marianne and I were partaking in our first real photographic journey by taking advantage of long service leave to shoot for 3 months (we aussies get 3 months leave after 10 years continuous work in the one spot). We hope to do so again in the future with the kids older. We were learning on the fly and with post processing skills not so good, we tended to filter our shots as much as possible to get them in single frame. The cheap filters meant that even though some scenes like this had real striking skies, the stacked filter casts became almost insurmountable (well we thought the casts were cool at the time). Elgol is one of those places of infinite possibilities and if you see a composition that is exactly the same as yours, its likely someone has emulated your work. It's simply stunning with the Black Cuillins in the backdrop. Hallett Cove is a neat little spot on the Adelaide coastline that isn't anywhere near as dramatic as this but we have awesome sunsets in Adelaide within 20 minutes drive of my house. I've been trying to get there to photograph big sky moments but find the foreground just aren't quite as engaging. Put the two together for a visual outcome I like, but the sum total certainly doesn't equal the worth of the individual moments experienced at the location. I hope you enjoy the image!
