Best viewed on black! Its amazing what kinda of surprises can happen when you are not looking. During a grey and dull overcast day Jeff Lewis, Erin Babnik, Nick Steinberg and I went for a photo adventure at Rodeo Beach. I was skeptical about sunset for most of the day, though when the sun dropped below the cloud cover something very special happened. Vivid orange glow spilled across the scene as the clouds above transformed into a canvas of colors. It was one of the most spectacular displays of light I have ever seen, the light was almost blinding. I was almost a little too shocked to even photograph it, I dashed around catching a few different wave flows while the light faded. Unfortunately this story goes sour quick, these are the last photos my poor Sony A7R will ever take. Shortly after taking this image a giant wave crashed which knocked me to the ground and into a bunch of rocks. I was fine besides some scrapes and bruises but the camera was done for, I am usually super carful with stuff like this. If you want the shot; sometimes you just have to do what you have to do regardless of the risk. Luckily and most importantly I was able to still download this SD card and get all of the images from the day. Also insurance will cover the camera. Whats funny though is overall I am super happy, losing the camera was such a minor thing and looking at this photo whilst remembering the awesome light with good company was well worth it. I will never forget this night and I am so happy to share this photograph with you all.
