This unique little arch's fame can be attributed to David Muench when he used it as the cover for his book "Windstone: Natural Arches, Bridges, and Other Openings", published in 2003. Since then it has been found and photographed by many others. It is really a incredible little structure, the tornado like arm and delicate sculptures in the back were formed by eons of wind circulating through the two openings in the front and back of the cave. As of this time it is remarkably well preserved, and hopefully it will remain that way for some time to come. Photographing this demure cave effectively is not as straight forward as it first seems. Though the opportunities for unique compositions are somewhat limited, the light is the challenge. Once the sun is up it quickly floods the cavern with nasty harsh contrast, then if it's to early or late there is no glow to be found. I happened to be there shortly after sunrise with the added good fortune of bright over cast conditions, even then I had to really manage the exposure levels. Thank you for looking.
