Cook N Hooker by Dylken

Hooker River, Mt Cook National Park, New Zealand. Please view on a black background. I had scouted this composition the night before at sunset but didn't get the best light. I set my alarm for 2 hours before sunrise the next morning hoping for better light. When I woke all I could hear was pouring rain and looking out the window of my campervan I could see nothing but thick clouds. Thinking I'd bail on shooting this morning I went back to sleep. I woke up again some time later and peaked out the window. To my disbelief the whole valley was burning with bright red skies. I put my shoes on, grabbed my camera and tripod and started sprinting down the Hooker Valley track. For half an hour I yelled expletives as I watched the sky turn from red to orange thinking I had missed out on the shot of a lifetime. I finally reached the spot I had scouted the night before, planted my tripod down and fired off 4 exposures. All the while cursing at myself and trying to catch my breathe. So here it is, the only image I was able to get that morning. A blend of 4 exposures. Who knows what I could have captured if I got out of bed on time!!!!! via 500px http://ift.tt/1qacKCk
