In May I visited a stunning lupine meadow in the coast range of northern California with David M. Cobb. Shooting right into the setting sun provided just the right kind of back lighting for the flowers to appear lit by an internal power source. I was extremely fortunate to have perfect light and perfect timing for the bloom, which is only at its peak for about a week. I spent an evening and a morning here. It was a wonderful experience. I hope you enjoy the image. View on black! This was a very challenging image to develop. Seven different exposures were blended for dynamic range and depth of field. I then made heavy use of Tony Kuyper's new actions panel to gradually build in adjustments using just about every luminosity masking technique I know. The new Zone Masks section was particularly helpful. More information can be found here. via 500px http://ift.tt/1ogBeYV

Sailing Stones of Death Valley by ParchenPhotography
Facebook page for updates Website for full portfolio Sailing Stones; The Racetrack in Death Valley National Park is just one of those locations that must been seen to be believed. These rocks, some weighing hundreds of pounds, have never been seen moving but the evidence is obvious as they leave tracks across this dry lake bed. Aliens? Wind? Unsupervised children? I'm no scientist so I'll just take the pictures for you to enjoy. This spot has been a bucket-list location since I started shooting the night sky and the early summer Milky Way was a perfect reason to head down to California, fight the desert heat, and drive on a very long and nasty dirt road to get there. I may have completely obliterated the shocks on my rental car to get here (seriously, they were gone by the end of the trip), but I guess that's just a sacrifice that I was willing to make. Enjoy! Tech: ILCE-A7r Zeiss Distagon T* 2,8/21 Sky: Tracked 4 Minutes, ISO 800, F/2.8 Ground: 30 seconds, ISO 800, F/4. Focus Stacked LR5 -> CS6 via 500px http://ift.tt/1neQO68

Morning Pride by JCphotographics
Morning Pride || Yosemite National Park, California - More photos on my Facebook Page or Instagram @jasoncrowellphoto There is a real element of beauty in the Yosemite National Park at any time of the day. That said there is something extra special in the early hours of the morning. The light is constantly changing with the mood, and even when there are minimal clouds, the ambience and atmosphere speaks for itself. Any feedback is welcome! JC via 500px http://ift.tt/1nttUGU
Rodeo Beach Sunset by kawasemi1
Yesterday, I had urge to go to shoot photographs ( you know the feeling ;-0) so I head out to Rodeo Beach in Marin County. I know it is famous for photographing, but I had no idea where exactly it is located. With internet, it wasn't difficult to find. I was originally set up much closer to the water, but decided to retreat after big waves crushed on me. Water is pretty rough around here. Now I thick it may be a bit afar from the water because foot tracks are so visible. Having said that, I kind of like it this way because it tells a story that it was a busy Sunday, and most people have left, returning the beach to Pelicans and photographers ( only one person besides me came later.) I enjoyed quietness, Color of the sunset was not that great, so I saturated. I used 2 dark, circular ND filters to begin with , but added graduated ND and slight red fiber in post process. It is prettier this way but also feels a bit unnatural. I appreciate if you let me know how I could have done better. via 500px http://ift.tt/1ghB1U1

Tide Swept by csillerud
Wet and sandy feet are a natural occurrence on the coast, however, in this situation, the sea nearly stole my shoes all together. I've waited for this shot for two years, and we lucky enough to visit on one of the best days of my life. The conditions went from viscous overcast and 40 F to racing clouds in screaming sun. The conditions were soo good that I actually screwed up multiple photographs because I tried to shoot too many rather than making sure I did a few very well. That is a painful mistake that I will file away to guide me on all my future endeavors. This is a composite of three exposures - sky, cave entrance, cave shadows - due to the extreme lighting conditions. via 500px http://ift.tt/1hF5WEY
Milky Way over Alabama Hills by nightscape
Milky Way over granite pinnacles at Alabama Hills - Tuttle Creek Canyon area. There are 6 battery powered lights hidden among the rocks that were used to light this scene. These pinnacles are about 40 feet (14 m.) high. Most of my NightScapes are ONE exposure (less than 30 seconds), with just enough light painting added during the exposure to enhance landscape recognition. For more how-to and behind-the-scenes information about my NightScape work and other featured night photographers, visit my Into The Night Photography blog. Through the Looking Glass by RyanDyar
I know it's Cinco de Mayo weekend and all... but if you could put your beer down long enough to view this on black it would be appreciated. It's always interesting to me when I go back and view my old archives of images and see what I had previously that was "unprocessable" 6 years ago. When I shot this in 2008 I never imagined I would be able to eek out enough dynamic range or even make the light palatable enough to view it without causing a migraine. Years later with more capable software and a broadened skill set, the approach to this shot was simple and took all of 15min to process from start to finish. It's only two exposures blended for dynamic range, some texture adjustments, a couple luminosity adjustments, and a significant amount of dodging and burning. If you are interested in how I go about creating my unique look in my images, I recently released a video about it. It's for sale up on my site http://ift.tt/HjSx9r You'll also find info about workshops, processing instruction via Skype, prints, and an article about my hobby of collecting stained glass portraits of minor league baseball stars. via 500px http://ift.tt/R8yu3m
