Facebook page for updates Website for full portfolio Sailing Stones; The Racetrack in Death Valley National Park is just one of those locations that must been seen to be believed. These rocks, some weighing hundreds of pounds, have never been seen moving but the evidence is obvious as they leave tracks across this dry lake bed. Aliens? Wind? Unsupervised children? I'm no scientist so I'll just take the pictures for you to enjoy. This spot has been a bucket-list location since I started shooting the night sky and the early summer Milky Way was a perfect reason to head down to California, fight the desert heat, and drive on a very long and nasty dirt road to get there. I may have completely obliterated the shocks on my rental car to get here (seriously, they were gone by the end of the trip), but I guess that's just a sacrifice that I was willing to make. Enjoy! Figurines called Sand Tufa's (pronounced toofah), gradually jettison up from salty floors as freshwater springs percolate through briny lake-bottom sand. Intricate sand tubes and columns become exposed as winds strip away their sandy coverings, and cast reflections off the shoreline of Mono Lake, CA. According to research data, this shallow lake basin is probably 1-3 million years old; making it among the most ancient lakes in North America. Embracing roughly 400 recorded vertebrate species within its watershed, Mono Lake and its surrounding areas encompass one of California￢ﾀﾙs richest natural resources. Coupled with the Milky Way￢ﾀﾙs expanse; it gives the viewer a sense of an ecosystem struggling for survival. ++view on black and go full screen for this one++ This is my first ever attempt at a full milky way panoramic. It stretches from looking south toward Astoria, OR and the north to the most northern tip of the Long Beach Peninsula here in Washington. It's comprised of 9 vertically stitched photos, 18mm, ISO 3200, 20 seconds, f/2.8. This location has always held a special in my heart as my dad spent a great deal of time here as a child and kept the tradition alive with me. This photo is a special one not only because of the area it was taken in but also because I was able to shoot the stars with my dad and teach him how to photograph the milky way for his first time. We lost track of time and before we knew it, it was already 2am... It was pretty awesome! Thanks for checking it out sharing is appreciated! "Dakota Territory Milky Way" The historical Ben Clare United Methodist Church, Valley Springs, South Dakota with May 25th's clear sky at 1:53 am. This is one of my favorite go to places for star shots, it is relatively close to where I live but just far enough to where you can see the milky may with the naked eye very well. You may remember from over a year ago my first shot to do well on this website (500px), was this same church during a Kp7 aurora borealis... http://ift.tt/1tjYcOf I have wanted to do a milky way shot here since last year but by the time I tried it was too late in the summer and the galactic center had already moved too far south to get it in the frame like this. This shot is a single exposure taken with a Canon EOS 6D and Canon EF 16-35 L II Lens at 16mm 15 second f/3.2 10,000iso. Tired of reading comments from ignorant people that think everything is PhotoShop, I decided to record a video with my phone of the camera taking this exact photo. "Waterfall Dreamscape" This dreamscape is a composite of two shots one from the split rock pics the other night , this one I never used because the colors had pretty much left the sky just after dusk but I had finally found the composition I was looking for... figures right as soon as the sunset is over. So I figured why not use it here 4 seconds f/22 100iso. Milky Way over granite pinnacles at Alabama Hills - Tuttle Creek Canyon area. There are 6 battery powered lights hidden among the rocks that were used to light this scene. These pinnacles are about 40 feet (14 m.) high. Most of my NightScapes are ONE exposure (less than 30 seconds), with just enough light painting added during the exposure to enhance landscape recognition.
