Now Comes Spring by Sean_Bagshaw
In May I visited a stunning lupine meadow in the coast range of northern California with David M. Cobb. Shooting right into the setting sun provided just the right kind of back lighting for the flowers to appear lit by an internal power source. I was extremely fortunate to have perfect light and perfect timing for the bloom, which is only at its peak for about a week. I spent an evening and a morning here. It was a wonderful experience. I hope you enjoy the image. View on black! This was a very challenging image to develop. Seven different exposures were blended for dynamic range and depth of field. I then made heavy use of Tony Kuyper's new actions panel to gradually build in adjustments using just about every luminosity masking technique I know. Yes, yes. This is one of the most iconic compositions from Ruby Beach... hell, even from most of Olympic National Park. But I just wanted to grab it real quick while out there with my friends Miles and Nagesh. It was a busy night on the beach with a mass transit of photographers, so I ended up having to clone out a few guys from the frame. This is also a stitch of two horizontal frames on top of each other to get the perspective I was after here. Also a couple shots for dynamic range. I've got a new video release I'm working on that covers some of this perspective blending stuff, as well as a few other types of perspective control techniques I use. There is also a BIG workshop announcement coming up for some epic international Aurora stuff that I'm super duper stoked on. Anyways, I recently released a tutorial video that covers some of the techniques I use in my processing (ones that were used in the making of this image). Monsanto was built under and over the granite. Due to the interest motivated by one of my last images, I decided to revisit the antique village and try to capture a little more of its spirit. After a couple of hours I found this place that, at least to me, symbolizes the roughness of living among the boulders since many, many centuries. With this God´s view I had no other chance but make a panorama shot, blending three images, because only one couldn't show all the beauty. This was trickier than I first thought, because of the 17 mm distortion and the lack of space. Also used a 0,9 ND grad and placed the tripod to wait for the (windy) sunset, in particulary the moment of the sun flair, to add a little more magic.
