This was a tough shot to pull off... both with composition and processing. It's a fairly extensive perspective blend that I had to utilize to get all the elements shaped up properly with the frame while overcoming the limitations of the natural elements and my own lens. It was all focus blended, blended for dynamic range, hand-stitched from different focal lengths, and then warped to get everything looking ship-shape again. After all of that it was pretty straight forward processing for me. Some texture work, some luminosity masking to get the tones proper across the board, and a bunch of dodging/burning (some of which is covered in my latest video tutorial). I'm currently working on my next video tutorial which will cover many of these perspective blend, warping, stitching techniques I use. It's pretty labor intensive work to put these together, but isn't necessarily *hard* to pull off. This photo is from Oneonta Falls just outside of Portland, Oregon. Oneonta has been on my photography bucket-list for years, and I finally got the chance to visit. The weather was beautiful (although the water was a bit cold) and we were treated to some light rays coming across the falls at just the right time. You may have seen this image of Mount Jefferson, Oregon before; I just realized I didn't have it posted over here, and it's one of my favorites from last year. This is 5 exposures blended together using my advanced Photoshop tonality control and multiple exposure blending techniques. I produced a video detailing these techniques, it's available here: www.zschnepf.com Last weekend I was co-teaching a workshop in the Gorge with fellow Photo Cascadia member and good friend David Cobb. We had a great group as usual. We were under a pretty cool, unstable weather pattern with lots of wind and rain, but it set us up for some dramatic conditions. We saw waterfalls, rainbows, paragliders, wildflower fields, incredible gorge views, and some spectacular light. This was our last morning. While I was helping some students set up in some foreground flowers I noticed this scene unfolding. I stepped to the edge of the cliff and fired off a quick bracket series and went back to helping some students. It was a great weekend of photography and adventure. Thanks for commenting! Light filters through the canopy of Gorton Creek during a break in the rain, in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge. Met up with some dope dawgs (Bollino, Mody, Rossbach, and Van Breugel) and had a chill Sunday of huevos rancheros, naps, and green shooting. Sorry for the re-upload here, my contacts were messed up last night and I was squinting through calcium deposits (maybe I should stop wearing my weeklies for 3 months) - didn't see some clarity/sharpening/diffusion issues with the original.
